What is Marriage 101?

Both husband and wife participate in Marriage 101. It is a two hour call (telephone or Skype) with one of Larry Bilotta’s skilled Marriage Translators where the Translator helps the two of you understand each of your unique motivations. When you do not understand the core motivations of your spouse, misunderstandings increase, while cooperation and meaningful communication breaks down.  The breakdown happens because each of you have unmet expectations you don’t realize you have.

These unmet expectations are rarely discovered by the couple so they cannot be fulfilled. Prior to the live call, each of you will complete your Flag Page, an online interactive tool that results in a multi-page printable document that explains who each of you are at heart when at your best.

Marriage 101 is different from conventional marriage counseling in that it is 100% positive, will not make either of you look bad, and gives the two of you a way to understand, accept your unique “Driving Force” expressed on a simple card.

Your Driving Force Card allows you to explain to your spouse exactly how you want to feel loved.  Your card will include 5 do’s and 5 don’ts that give each of you a ‘bulls-eye’ to focus on so you know specifically what to do to support each other. Do we need to be in the same location for the call?

You will be calling into a conference line for Marriage 101, so you can both be in separate locations.  For a high quality recording of the call, we recommend using land lines rather than cell phones.  If you are calling in through Skype, only the audio portion of the call will be recorded.

Does Marriage 101 work if we live outside the U.S.?

We have many couples who have completed Marriage 101 from all over the world. We use Skype, (the free service), to conduct calls with couples outside the United States and Canada. A microphone, computer and the free Skype software are required.

Is the call recording available if we use Skype for the call?

Both phone calls and Skype calls will be recorded and sent to you after the event.

What is the format of the call like? What can we expect?

The key to a successful call is in the preparation.  You should plan on 40 minutes to an hour to prepare for the call.  You will be given specific assignments to complete which include completing a Flag Page online, watching a video and completing a writing exercise.  These will get you ready for the call.  Your Marriage Translator will then help you use your Flag Pages to create your “Driving Force Card”.  The rest of the call will be focused on teaching you how to use your cards to communicate with each other through the various situations of life.

Who calls who?

At the scheduled day and time of your call, you will both call in to a conference line. This ensures your call can be recorded for your own personal use.  This way, each of you can be on separate phones in any location while you call in to the conference line to join your Marriage Translator.

What is a Marriage Translator?

Larry Bilotta has personally taught his Marriage Translators to apply the unique Marriage 101 process to married couples.  A Marriage Translator has the tools and understanding to “translate” the emotional language of husband to wife and wife to husband.

Even though men and women marry all the time, virtually no husband or wife has taken a course to understand the opposite sex.  Men do not understand the unique needs of women and women show no interest in understanding the unique needs of men.  For this reason, a 101 level course is required if you want to get over the obstacles in your marriage.  You simply do not understand the opposite gender’s needs, but more importantly, you don’t understand the particular needs of the person you married.  Marriage 101 solves this problem for the first time.

Marriage 101 brings you LIVE INTERACTIVE training from your Marriage Translator by focusing on what's RIGHT about you, not what's wrong with you. Where a marriage counselor focuses the two of you on attempting to fix what went wrong in your relationship, your Marriage Translator will help you focus on your strengths as individuals, what motivates you and how to meet and support the motivations of one another.  this is an entirely different strategy for marriage fulfillment.

Will this work if my spouse is having an affair?

Emotional or sexual affairs can affect husbands and wives in a wide variety of ways, but in essence, that person is distracted from their relationship with you as a result of this third-party.  It is best if the spouse involved in the affair breaks off that relationship while you conduct the marriage 101 event so all of their energy will be focused on doing the work that is being taught.

Will this program save my marriage? I see Larry has other programs available. How do I know which is right for me/us?

Larry Bilotta offers two primary programs.  The first is for couples who have not lost their love for each other but they are experiencing troubles they have not been able to solve.  This is best handled with Marriage 101.

When one spouse or the other becomes emotionally disconnected, Marriage 101 will have little to no effect.  In that case, the staying spouse should consider the Environment Changer program that is designed for husbands or wives who now need to save their spouse through their own efforts.

I have already completed a Flag Page. Do I need to complete a Flag Page again?

A Flag Page is included with the Marriage 101 event for both husband and wife.  If it has been a year or more since you created a Flag Page, it is best to create a new Flag Page for the Marriage 101 event.

What if my spouse is reluctant to join me in Marriage 101? How do I approach my spouse about this?

Larry created a special video for your spouse to watch titled “How to pull your family together before it pulls you apart”.  (The link to these videos are referenced in the videos on the homepage of this website). It is best to let this video do the work of communicating what Marriage 101 is.  That’s why you should give a minimum explanation, saying something such as, “I found this program online and it’s explained in a short video.  Would you be willing to watch it?”  If your spouse is willing to watch the video, allow the video to do the work of making the case for Marriage 101.  If your spouse responds positively, then you can sign up for the program and coordinate the date and time with your spouse.

Will there be time to ask questions about other issues regarding our marriage?

Because Marriage 101 gets to the heart of what causes divisions between you, many questions are answered by the process itself.  Marriage 101 teaches that the more you talk about the problem, the longer the problem exists.  Generally, troubles you have experienced will be dealt with in the process of the Marriage 101 call.

What are Larry’s qualifications?

Larry lived 27 years in a marriage made in Hell, but in the 28th year, fell in love…with his wife! Back in the 90's, Larry Bilotta was suffering MISERABLY in a loveless marriage. He needed a way to reduce the stress, anxiety and tension in his marriage. Not because he was devoted to his wife, but because he needed to maintain his own SANITY.

Driven by his need to reduce his own emotional pain, Larry spent 27 years digging into virtually every form of solution from psychiatry, to self-help, to spiritual solutions.  As he applied these ideas to his own life, he found others who were enduring similar pain and began helping them as well.  His focus was on what is right rather than on what is wrong.  He created the Flag Page because it focuses only on strengths, not on weaknesses.  This is the same belief system that founded Marriage 101.  People do not learn when you tell them what’s wrong with them.  They want to learn what is already right about them.
